My first real post!
It is a beautiful and sunny day today, up in the 70s! Happy Earthday!
This was a great week in the garden. Lot's of clean-up got done, worked on my long-term homestead design, and did some more planting!
My Alma Paprika and Wenk's Yellow Hot Peppers are germinating well, but my Jimmy Nardello's are not. It's a good thing I planted additional seeds in each pot -I'll need them!
My Broccoli and Cauliflower are up and doing great! The cauliflower is a few days slower than the broccoli. In an attempt to learn from my pepper plantings, I placed around 3 seeds in each pot. Now I have 2-4 little plants growing in each pot! I guess these guys have a better germination rate than the peppers, or maybe they just like the climate int he shed better...either way I have way more broccoli and cauliflower plants than I can fit in my garden this year.
I made up some more newspaper pots and transplanted to extra starts - they are growing strong so it must not have phased them much. I am hoping the little town down the road has an earlier farmer's market this year and I can sell my extras - sure could use a few extra dollars right now. It's such a tiny new market, that you can just show up and sell things for free - yay!
I got my cabbage into pots inside this week too and they have just started opening.
Outside, my onion seeds have still not germinated...I think it is time to buy sets and plant again...no heirloom onions this year. :(
The garlic is doing great though.
I started planting some Parisienne carrots and Dragon carrots, as well as a row each of Golden beets and Bull's Blood beets.
Peas are growing!
I am also attempting to make better use of my space (thanks to my homestead plan, I realized I will run out of room for some things I want to add in a few years...) so, I widened the circle under my little Apricot tree and planted some strawberries under it. I also scattered some crimson clover seeds. We'll see how it goes before I do the rest of the trees.
I just am so excited about this beautiful sunny weather today! Back outside I go....hmm...more carrots perhaps?
