Homesteading, Organic Gardening, How to Farm, Preparedness, Self-Reliance
We felt like farmers this weekend. We went and picked blackberries at a local farm this weekend. Also had a couple of vegetable suppers from produce purchased at a local farmer's market. We picked our blackberries and okra (very small quantities) and listened to podcasts. Read our current issue of Hobby Farms and the Ag Journal.
The weekends are the hardest I think because we want to be out on land so badly. We try to do things that will make us "feel" like we're on the land.
This last week we put 19 quarts of blackberries in the freezer, 8 quarts of peaches and 20 ears of corn. Small amounts but keeping the dream alive inside. We attend farmer's markets to support the local farms and buy their produce. Such good things are available.
We work at our fitness levels because we know once we have land it will be long days of hard work. The tennis and treadmill will stop and be replaced by all kinds of hard work.
Sometimes I wonder if at age 53 we're getting too old to pursue our dream but then I realize we won't be happy if we don't!
