Homesteading, Organic Gardening, How to Farm, Preparedness, Self-Reliance
Just over 1 month ago we closed on the property. At that time we thought we would be moved in by 12/31. We do this everytime - overestimate our rate of progress we will make.
I remember one time when we lived in Oklahoma on 10 acres that we decided we were going to build a pole barn. The one weekend project turned into a 1 month project. That should have been my lesson.
Week 4 brought more plumbing, more carrying out of trash to the dump pile and more wallpaper removal. I applied the first layer of mud to the walls that got damaged from the wallpaper removal. I also got all of that sanded. I need a round two of mud application. Our son is working on the chainsaw and trying to rebuild the motor. We got the seat replaced on the riding lawnmower (need tires now). He also got the outside of the equipment shed cleaned and rearranged - looks so much better. In doing that he secured another trailer full of trash.
I got the dumpster ordered - it comes on Friday and we have it for a week. We know we will have no problem filling it up. I think the weather is supposed to turn colder during the week we have it - sigh.
Our daughter got the cardboard box flooring pulled up in her basement area and she swept everything then reapplied the boxes and masking tape to protect the floor for the next round.
Hubby continued with the propane copper lines and has the 120 pound air pressure test on it. We were going to switch it over this past weekend but then realized he had forgotten the line that ran to the gas fireplace in the front of the house. So Sunday, instead of switching it over, I helped him run that line. I'm getting quite good at finding and cleaning the fittings. By the end of Sunday, the air pressure test was back on it.
I got all my bird feeders moved up and in position so Grandma can watch them while she is out there. She got a new lift chair to keep in the family room. She enjoys looking out at the lake and watching for wildlife. At 96 she is limited physically and prefers to sit and read or look out the window but at the same time wants to be near us while we are working.
Our next targeted move in is January 31 - we will see how it goes.

Have a Happy NEW YEAR
