Edible Landscaping

I have started planning the spring plantings, and want to reclaim the flower beds that surround my house. I have inherited a set of beds that run the gambit from full sun to low sun. The majority of the beds are north facing and west facing. I have been thinking of laying down some red and white clover for a base layer. What else should I plant? Anything that has worked well for this? I am thinking in the indirect sunlight spots of putting herbs and maybe lettuce or other leafy things. I am in…See More

Mice in the house

I have recently moved into a historic home on a couple of acres in the country. The previous tenants were less than sanitary and I have been steadily cleaning up everything from them, their dogs and the mice they attracted. I have caught 2 adults and 1 baby mouse in the past week. 2 standard mice and what I think was a deer mouse. It had white spots near his belly. So, how do we control these things? I have used glue board and snap traps, but want to speed up the eradication/control process. I…See More

Have grass, hope to rake

I am in the process of moving and setting up my new homestead. In the process I have reclaimed about 1.5 acres of mountain grass. Took me 7 hours with a brush hog, but it is now knocked down and ready to be collected. I have been looking at chain link fence drag rakes, but seem that the majority of the time they are used to level or smooth land. Anyone used these to collect grass? I need this land clear-ish for a farm celebration on the 4th of July, It was also just way too tall for me to put…See More
