This past spring & summer our grandson needed extensive dental work and the only dentist that I could find that would take our insurance wouldn't take his secondary insurance and because ours was the primary the secondary wouldn't reimberse for the co-pays so I was using part of my bill money to pay the dentist because they wouldn't make payment arrangements for the co-pays, so now with the holidays upon us I'm struggling to play catch up on bills and not enough money coming in to do…

I'm always on the look out for a good deal and so far over the years I've scored a number of them for things we need/want but can't afford new. Most but not all have been free and a lot of those were side of the road finds.
Some of the things I've found on the side of the road free have been a 60's era Hamilton Beach electric meat grinder that works fantastic, 3 fans for times like this when it's hot but not hot enough for A/C, trash bags full of enough like new & new bedding for…

Around here you never know what surprises are going to be waiting for you, like the morning I woke up to an egg that had hatched a week sooner than I expected, because I was putting eggs in the incubators at different times I was writing the dates on them so I could mark the calendar with the approximate hatch dates so when I put the duck egg in I marked the calendar well guess what Aracuna eggs are the same color as some duck eggs
Then you have the ducklings that just have to…

I learned most of what I know from my Great Grandfather, He live right next door and he was always teaching me about gardening, seed starting, and animal raising. But I never really put any of it to use until many years later.
My adventure started in the early 80's when after 10 yrs of marriage I filled for a divorce and became a single mother of 1 collecting workman's comp. I was just barely paying the bills never mind putting food on the table so I decided to start a garden and…

Debra Benes said… Karen, Thanks for adding me. I'm actually from Pa. Small town called Green Lane. Not far from Lancaster. I grew up on a farm, but when my Grandfather got really sick we moved to Fla. so my Dad could help care for him and my Grandmother. The country never left my blood or heart. I've been here about 16 yrs.. Where I'm at reminds me of Pa. I love your sign and I need to get one! I've been having similar problems here almost 2 yrs now. I think it's finally getting to the neighbors that they can't get rid of me and I am not breaking any laws here. I look forward to chatting with you and making new friends

Tina said… Thank you for the info on Maine! My husband and I traveled there during the fall and of course fell in love with it. I know it would be an excellent idea to travel in the winter and summer to see if we still love it. We have been doing some research on the area with regards to farming, jobs et.al. and will continue to do so. We hope to rent something just to see if we want to stay forever. We have many ideas as to what we want to do but haven't really put a finger on it. We still have our 23 year old at home, just graduated from college and has a job. Next, she's getting an apartment. Once she is settled we are going to really start looking for something that fits what we are looking for. $4K in taxes on a half and acre? That's insane! That's what we pay on our property in California and our house in CO. We will most certainly be checking all that nonsense. Our property in CA was a gift from a family member. We may move there, but it is high desert and I have been living in the desert that is CO for 12 years now. I want something different. We are blessed to have options.
I love the fact that your family takes care of each other! That is a blessing in and of itself. I somewhat envy that. I think it's wonderful~
Blessings to you and your family on continuing to fight for what's yours and to continue doing what you do! You are an inspiration to many~
