Posted on Small Business Resources Wanted! Discussion in Farm Business Group

After consulting one on one with small business and farm entrepreneurs, I got so excited about the amazing work they were doing and the encouraging amount of resources available to them (but not always getting to them), I began compiling such information to help grow better business models and build awareness among all of us as potential customers for them. In the process of developing our ag resources section -- below are some links though that might be helpful right now:
- Resources for Beginning Farmers
- Places to List Your Farm (for your CSA + agri-tourism opps and more)
- Resources for Starting a CSA (also resources for Starting a Farm Market)
And finally, for logo/graphics -- you might check with your local community colleges' or even high schools' art programs that may be seeking training opps for their students; some offer apprenticeship and intern programs for students to get real world experience and help local businesses. Certainly using local and independent graphic artists and businesses is preferable but when that's not an option I found and use an excellent online service called The Logo Company and have been very pleased. They are very reasonable ($149 logo-for custom work, with 5 different concepts and unlimited revisions) and have super customer service.
I'm an information junkie pure and simple so if you're looking for anything else, I'm happy to try and help, just holler! Good luck!

Hi Ellen -- having set out on the search to find locally-sourced farm eggs and other local eats quite often, we've compiled a list of directories and sites where you can search zip codes, cit.... and where you can post your info too. You might consider adding your listing and contact information to some of the guides and directories listed there. You might also reach out to other area egg suppliers that you find on those lists too. As a fellow Georgian who has been fortunate to find local sources, I can tell you that they often run out of supply from time to time and are really good about referring to other local suppliers in the area. Local restaurants might be potential buyers too. You might also want to let your local health food stores, wellness doctors/chiropractors and others who might extol the benefits of healthy eating know that you are offering eggs -- they're a natural "go to" for people seeking local foods. Consider your library and community bulletin boards too. And finally, you might seek out CSA's in your area who might be interested in adding eggs to their weekly share for their customers -- that would you give you an instant customer base and consistent demand for your eggs. Good luck!
