Stage 1 raised beds are built and planted for 2011. 2012 we added more beds and mulch pathways
Comment by Atticus Freeman on July 5, 2012 at 2:15pm Nicely done! Is the wooden framework made from store-bought fence posts and rails?
Comment by Samantha Belley on July 5, 2012 at 3:05pm I think they started as a bunch of 8 foot tall ceder fence posts left over from a fencing project. They are dug down 3 feet I think so they won't pitch in the frost. The stones are just cheap cement patio stones. They went together rather easily considering my husband didn't have any help putting them together.
Comment by Atticus Freeman on July 5, 2012 at 7:30pm I thought the patio stone idea was a nice touch. Are they just held in place by the soil, or did you anchor them in some way?
Comment by Samantha Belley on July 6, 2012 at 6:36am We wrapped landscape tarp around the top to inside of the stone to hold them in while filling up the gardens. Other than that it's just the pressure of the soil. That way if a stone cracks we can just slide it out and put in a new one.
Comment by Atticus Freeman on July 6, 2012 at 11:14am Thanks, being able to replace one was my thought as well, but I wanted to see how you had done it.
Comment by The Subrural Homestead on July 6, 2012 at 11:35am Very nice! I love the patio stones. Easy to replace if needed and they'll last a long time. And, it kinda gives them a tidy, pulled together look. If that makes sense. Lol! Great idea!
