What beautiful turkeys, great they got a pardon now maybe the hen will lay eggs and hatch out some more beautiful turkeys. Ellen from Georgia
That is what we are hoping, I just love them!
I like the colors on the hen how old is she?We have ducks and chickens now hoping to add some turkeys in the spring. Ellen from Georgia
They were born 7/9/2013 - both are really great birds. The male stays poofed out all the time - guess he is showing his dominance - hope he stays "friendly"...
My ducks were born on April Fools day, all they want to do is escape and waddle down into the empty garden. I have a small tote for the ducks out front and a kiddie pool in the back for them, they leave both of them to wander to our small pond ans watch the other chickens in the coop area. Is it true that turkeys are harder to raise then chickens or ducks that is what I have heard?
We ordered 4 turkeys and 2 survived. But we think it was our fault not giving them high protein food in the early days - we had them on chick starter. Other than that - we have thoroughly enjoyed our turkeys, very friendly, will follow you around the yard when they free-range. Seem to be very hardy birds. I love your pictures of your ducks and chickens!
Thanks these ducks and chickens are the ones that free range, I feed this flock Purina flock raiser it is for ducks, chickens and turkeys. So do they have such a feed as turkey starter on the market? What did you finally feed them that was high in protein? This is my 6 red star when they were about a month old they have become very plump hens, they lay a nice big brown egg. The ducks the same age they were raised together, some of the red star have been moved to the coop area chicken tractor too small for all of them. I have covered the top of the tractor in another big brown tarp and it stays dry plenty of straw inside made sure the wind blows at the back of the tractor. Going to have to have my son in law build another tractor for turkeys when I get them in the spring.
We buy the high-protein game bird crumbles from our local feed store....
Okay great I have seen it before at the local hardware store and the feed store, I thought it was for game birds only.
