The eggs of the Black Copper Marans hens look like a chocolate egg. They are beautiful to look at and tasty to eat. They were the favorite egg of James Bond in the Ian Fleming novels.

Wow! You gotta tell the story on this egg. What breed???? What species? haha
Comment by Cathy R. Payne on December 9, 2011 at 9:20pm Oh, I've got to finish editing my photo album.
This is a gloriously beautiful egg from one of our French Black Copper Marans hens. The hens are black and sweet and have lightly feathered feet. They deposit this color on the egg as it is laid. Younger hens lay the darkest eggs. The size is extra large. They were the favorite eggs of James Bond in the Ian Fleming novels. I get 50 cents a dozen more for my dark brown eggs and customers fight over who gets to buy them!
I would LOVE to have some of these layers. Thank you for the info!
Comment by Cathy R. Payne on December 10, 2011 at 6:22am Good luck, Marilyn! We lost our rooster this summer so can't hatch any more eggs. I'd like some more, too.
Comment by Andrea G on December 10, 2011 at 9:30am Beautiful! I have some cuckoo marans but their eggs are not this dark. I think I will be looking for some FBCMs in the spring, my customers would love these.
