Growing Fish and Plants wiht Aquaponics

Starting a business can be a challenge, and much of the information about starting your own business that you will find on the Internet is no help. Most of it is just people trying to sell you gimmicks that create false hope and will distract you from the effort needed to start a real business. If you are interested in starting a real business, instead of wasting time with money making gimmicks, here is an idea with some business potential.

Aquaponics is a newly developing technology that allows people to grow plants and fish, but without all the time, labor, resources and expense of typical farming. The way it does this is to create a balanced system where plants and fish take care of one another. It is essentially taking aquaponics (raising fish) and using a hydroponic system (growing plants without soil) as a water filter to keep the fish water and tank clean.

Fish and plants together may seem like an odd pair, but they work together beautifully. Fish release large amounts of nutrients into the water, and plants are great at cleaning them up. Fish make the nutrients, plants keep the fish tank and water clean, and the pump circulates the water and nutrients to the plants and back to the tank. There is no soil, so no digging, plowing, or composting, weeds are not a factor and neither are any of the typical soil pests. After all of this, what work is left for you to do? Not much.

If you want to work hard, try growing plants in the ground or try typical aquaculture. But if you would rather focus on growing plants and fish and being productive, aquaponics is an excellent choice. Aquaponics may be a developing technology, but it is not technical or complicated to set up or maintain. It is about as difficult as setting up a common aquarium that you will find in millions of homes. Only much more productive.

The low expense and labor of growing fish and plants this way gives this kind of system a great profit potential. And since you are producing fish and plants both from the same system, you are getting twice the production possibilities from the same resources.

You can easily start small and get the feel for how these systems work. You can produce food for yourself as well as grow other products. Food fish and vegetables do great with this kind of system. Especially since they are grown in a clean organic way. growing ornamental plants and aquarium fish may even be more profitable. There are also many markets for breeding fish for stocking ponds or to sell to other fish growers.

Aquaponics has great profit potential. I am not going to tell you that you are going to make a quick killing with it. I can pretty safely assure you that you won't. But you can build a real business that can become quite profitable over time. At the least you can get a system started up that will produce fresh vegetables and fish for you and your family. And aquaponics is a whole lot of fun if you like growing things without a lot of work.

Get your aquaponics system set up quickly with this aquaponics guide. Learn how to build a simple low cost aquaponics system that will produce an amazing amount of fish and plants.
