Homesteading, Organic Gardening, How to Farm, Preparedness, Self-Reliance
My family and i have been raising rabitts to put in the freezer for the past year. We realy enjoy it. What would I have to have, regualtion wise, in order to sell rabbit meat to the restaraunts and butcher shops? Also what about sell the meat to the general public? If anyone can answer or point me to where the answers are I would appreciate it. Especally as it applys to Tennessee and Georgia.
Thanks
Warrick

You would want to call your local health department and find out what resell rules they have for selling meat. Most likely you will have to buy some sort of permit to sell in your county if your laws are similar to us. The second part is finding a state or USDA certified facility to process the rabbits which is typically the hardest part. I have a friend who will process my rabbits, however, if I wasn't running my pasture poultry through him I do not know if I would be able to find a processor.
