Homesteading, Organic Gardening, How to Farm, Preparedness, Self-Reliance
I'm having a hard time searching out what the best breed would be for our new homestead in North FL.
I realize no breed is perfect & also that a certain 'specimen' of a breed isn't an example of the entire breed...But I was hoping to get a consensus on which breed I'm more likely to have luck with!
Ideally, I'd love a dog to have these characteristics: be great with children, NOT have a tendency to run away if the entire place isn't fenced, protective of livestock & family members without being aggressive, smart, easy going, low maintenance, easy to train, can be a snuggly indoor pet as well as a rugged outdoors pet, and deals well with heat & humidity.
Help?!

They do point out that you really can't have the best of both worlds, if it is going to be a protector of livestock it can't really be treated as a house dog. I know this doesn't really answer your question just thought I would point out the podcast as maybe a good place to start! :) Good luck with the pup!
