Last week I placed an order with Johnny's Select Seeds, I don't normally shop online but the past 2 years to get what I want I've had to thru E-Bay, ect, so when I got my catalog in the mail last week I decided to save time I would just go to their site and place my order. Saturday I received an email telling me my seeds had shipped with a tracking number and a note telling me I should have had my seeds yesterday, this morning I went on to check the tracking and discovered they went a round about route getting here.
Now the first thing you need to understand is Johnny's is about 2 hours north of me, so yes I could have just driven there but at $3.59 a gallon for gas the shipping was cheaper, mistake #1, well I know the route the truck should have taken when the seeds left their facility and the route they took wasn't it! They went from Albion, ME to Waterville, ME (yep right on track) BUT from there instead of heading straight down the pike into Scarborough, ME they went west and across the border into Nashua, NH then from there back to Scarborough, ME. So what should have been in my mailbox yesterday now won't be here until today or tomorrow. Mistake #2 was instead of just sending them first class postage Johnny's sent them priority mail, if they had sent them first class the shipping would have been cut in half and I would have gotten them yesterday.
I also found out last week that apparently some people that work for the USPS can't read, I received a box that had FRAGILE written all over it in big black letters on a white Priority mail box and someone somewhere between WA state and my mailbox sat a heavy package on it and crushed one end which resulted in 2 of the 7 eggs in the box being crushed. The USPS won't let packages containing eggs be insured because of the extremely fragile nature of them both for breakage and because of the forming embryo inside so everyone I order from marks the boxes FRAGILE and also puts a huge note on the boxes stating they contain live embryos so handle with care and don't X-ray.
And then they wonder why people are finding other methods of communicating and shipping.
Give me a month running the show and I bet I could get them back in the black by cutting salaries and giving some of these idiots proper training on how to handle packages and if you can't/won't read you either learn or hit the road.
